Chandler's laptop
Chandler's laptop is a Compaq Contura 4/25cx during "The One With The List". It was the top model of the Contura lineup of that time (1994). The base model had:
- Processor: 486SL running at 25MHz (slowed down version of the 486)
- Display: VGA color (active matrix)
- RAM: 4MB (expandable to 20Mb)
- Hard disk: 120MB or 200MB
In 1994 the base model costed $3,848 which, adjusted for inflation, is $6,756.82 in 2020.
Chandler's version had "12 megabytes of RAM, 500 MB hard drive, built-in spreadsheet capabilities (they all had that) and a modem that transmits at over 28,000 bps." so would have costed a lot more.
In The One With The List, Chandler has trouble getting the laptop to print, which it finally does when he closes it (but it's a bad time).
In the episode Chandler asks Joey and Ross if they want to play Doom, which in fact does run on a Compaq Contura 4/25cx albeit not very well. The laptop is stolen during episode "The One With The Cat".
Chandler's last Compaq laptop
During the show other Compaq laptops were used and the last one was Chandler's Compaq Presario 1400, during "The One With The Memorial Service".
Compaq was later bought by HP and in 2013 let go as a brand all together.
