Marta Kauffman is an American TV producer and writer, and one of the co-creators of Friends.

Early life and education

Marta Fran Kauffman was born on September 21, 1956 in Philadelphia to a conservative Jewish family. She attended a nearby high school where she took a keen interest in the dramatic arts. She went on to achieve a BA in Theater from Brandeis University in 1978. It was at university that she first met David Crane, when they were both cast in the same student production of Camino Real.[1]

Career

Friends

Kauffman co-created the TV series Friends with David Crane, and served as Executive Producer alongside Crane and Kevin S. Bright throughout its run.

Other work

Kauffman and Crane produced Veronica's Closet, starring Kirstie Alley, and Jesse, starring Christina Applegate. As of 2005 she was an executive producer on Related.

Personal life

Kauffman was married to Michael Skloff, who composed the Friends theme song I'll Be There For You. They lived together in Los Angeles and have three children: Hannah, Sam and Rose. She and Skloff divorced in 2015.
