This is my review on the couple: Ross and Rachel.
This is a couple which every fan used to appreciate and love when the show was airing but nowadays, this is having quite a different outlet as they are now being far more scrutinised by newer fans, some even willing to place them as their worst couple of the show. However, they are a lot of new fans who still love them together thus, making them somewhat controversial by the community. Now, I'm going to see whether this really is a couple worth loving or whether they deserve all the hate they are receiving recently. So keep reading to see my review.
Although the mentioned couple were the main couple of the show, I absolutely don't ship them together due to the fact that the couple was nothing but drama without any love or affection whatsoever.
Don't get me wrong, that doesn't apply for the entire series though. I honestly think, Ross and Rachel were tolerable at the beginning of the show but it was during Season 3 when all this changed. The couple pivoted from being a good, relatable couple to one that was easily one of the worst couples of the entire show. They weren't functional anymore and whenever they were together, they fought all the time! I guess that was because they were terrible at communicating on what they want. Instead, they let disagreements between them fester until they became impossible to solve. They were constantly jealous of the other dating someone else even know they knew that they were not right for each other eg; when Rachel was jealous of Ross' relationship with Emily.
Both of the points above were exacerbated and soon became so repetitive and toxic that the only positive development each of them had was the development they had apart. That is why I think in the last one when they were a couple again, it was forced and pre-planned since they moved on from each other. Rachel's ending doesn't need a man since she progressed perfectly in her career and Ross' ending doesn't need that headache he had with Rachel and just settle down with a woman comfortably. I would had loved the final episode a lot more if Rachel hadn't got off the plane. I honestly think they broke up shortly afterwards due to their brief time together, consisting of a lot of fights about subjects that were mostly in the past. There was a glimpse only a few minutes after they reunited of that. When Ross said "we are on a break" to Rachel in a joke way.
As you can perfectly tell from my review, I agree with the fans who say that Ross and Rachel were a terrible couple. They were so toxic together and with all the arguments they got themselves into during the remaining 7 seasons of the show, they rightly deserved the criticism that's being fired towards them. However, I would not go as far as saying that they were the worst couple of the series as their relationship during the first 3 and a half seasons was healthy without many bumps but it was after that when things went downhill. I just don't understand why the writers forced their relationship throughout the series when the breakup (both first and second) were the points to show that they were never gonna work. The "will they, won't they" storyline just don't work well with the heavily flawed, Ross and Rachel.
Therefore, Ross and Rachel are a terrible couple, rating them a mere (2.5/10). However, to come to this conclusion, this was broken down from the different stages of their relationship. For their relationship before S3, I rated them (8/10). However, for their relationship for the remaining seasons of the show, I gave them an abysmal (0.4/10). I know the mean would have been 4.2 but due to the heavier weight of the latter rating on the series, that's why the overall rate for Ross and Rachel was pulled down.
